User Stories - @kiel_phillips

We talk to @kiel_phillips about his comedy inspirations, early memories and favourite Howler users.

Kiel Phillips

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I live in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. I recently left my job working for a charity to take up a position with a provider of satellite tv and internet. (Yes, that one).

(Sky's the limits, unless you're a Virgin! - MH)

What kind of comedy really tickles you and why?

I'm a fan of a lot of different types of comedy. From one liners to puns, surreal comedy, cringe comedy and dark humour. I just like anything that makes me laugh.

Tell us about your comedy heroes.

Bill Hicks

Again, there is a huge variation of styles. Some of my comedy heroes are Eric Sykes, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Steven Wright, Richard Pryor, Louis C.K, Jim Jefferies, Mitch Hedberg, Billy Connolly, Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer is one who has recently joined the list.

(I think Bill Hicks would hate Howler - MH)

What are your favourite comedy shows on TV?

I'm a big fan of American shows like Louie, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Inside Amy Schemer.

Older shows I like include Steptoe and Son, Dad's Army, One Foot In the Grave, Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers.

What are your earliest comedy memories?

Morcambe and Wise

One that sticks out is watching a Morcambe and Wise Christmas special with my grandad when I was about 6. I remember him laughing so hard his face used to go a worrying colour as he couldn't catch his breath. It started off my love of comedy, studying it to see what the secret was to making people laugh like that.

Who are your favourite Howler users? Why are they your favourite?

Probably @Traineejohn, @gazgagman, @craighosie and @gaz_cordrey . I follow them on Twitter and they make me laugh on there, so being able to get even more of their material on another site is a bonus.

Which of your Howler jokes are you most proud?

Berlin left the music industry and opened a liposuction clinic called 'Take My Breadth Away'

Whats next? any gigs lined up or happy just playing with material?

I've been happy before now just writing material, but recently I've been toying with the idea of performing it. I'm currently making enquries as to where I can do that here.
